Conveniently Correct Cosmetic Imperfections
Straighten the Smile without Anyone Knowing
It’s no secret that aligned teeth make a smile beautiful. And, most individuals are aware that braces are one of the best solutions for achieving a straight smile and correct bite. However, most adults and some teens don’t want to wear highly conspicuous metal wires and brackets in order to achieve their ideal smile. Nowadays, there are options, one of which includes Invisalign®. Dr. Diane Arel provides the revolutionary Invisalign® treatment to her Harrison, Ohio patients, and even patients from Lawrenceburg and Cincinnati.
Invisalign® consists of a series of clear, plastic trays that are worn in succession to gradually shift the teeth into their correct position. One of the best features of Invisalign® is that the trays are virtually undetectable to others when worn. Patients can achieve their dream smile, and no one will even know they are undergoing treatment. The procedure begins with a consultation with Dr. Arel, during which she will evaluate the condition of the smile, take X-rays and 3D images, and discuss the patient’s objectives. She will map out a detailed action plan for achieving a beautifully aligned smile.
The patient’s X-rays and digital 3D images are sent to the Invisalign® laboratory, where the custom aligners are crafted. Patients can also see computer imaging of how the teeth will move, and what the final result will look like.
Dr. Arel gives the trays to the patient, along with instructions for wearing them. Patients typically wear one tray for 22 to 24 hours a day, for approximately two weeks before the next tray in the series is worn. By the end of treatment, the teeth and bite will be in their correct position.
Patients will have to wear a retainer post-treatment, for an indicated period of time, to hold the teeth in their new place.

Candidates for Invisalign®
The most effective way to determine whether Invisalign® is right for your needs is to meet with Dr. Arel for a consultation. Ideal candidates include teens or adults who wish to correct:
- Misaligned teeth
- Overcrowded teeth
- Widely spaced teeth
- Twisted teeth
- Uneven teeth
- Overbite, underbite, crossbite
Candidates may feel self-conscious about their smile and their appearance, which is why they prefer a less obvious treatment. Many Invisalign® patients previously had braces, however have experienced some shifting. It is important that patients are mature enough to commit to wearing the trays for the amount of time necessary until treatment is complete.
Risks or Side Effects of Invisalign®
There are no serious risks associated with Invisalign® treatment. Patients may experience some mild discomfort when a new tray is worn due to movement of the teeth. However, any symptoms are temporary and can be relieved with over-the-counter pain medication.
Patients who clench or grind the teeth must be careful to not damage the trays. If the retainer is not worn following treatment, the teeth will inevitably shift back into their original position. Additionally, if the trays are not worn for the necessary amount of time in a day, they may no longer fit.
